The Complete Guide To Gastric Sleeve Surgery
Gastric sleeve surgery, is a newer generation of weight loss surgery used by bariatric surgeons to help morbidly obese patients reach their ideal weight. VSG is called by a lot of different names, like gastric sleeve resection, tube gastrectomy, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. No matter what your doctor calls it, the procedure is still the same.
First off, its a surgery of the stomach, the gastric sleeve surgeon will eliminate almost 80 percent of patient’s stomach. This reshapes the stomach into a tube like shape hence where the surgery name comes from sleeve surgery. This is a laparoscopic surgery, meaning the surgeon will only make very small incisions and scarring will be minimal. A miniature medical camera is inserted into the micro incision allowing the bariatric surgeon to manipulate very small medical instruments to perform the weight loss surgery. Once the excess parts of the stomach have been surgically removed, the new smaller stomach is stapled using special medical staples used only in bariatric surgeries.
